Next week marks the official product launch of Reee, a recycled chair with an interesting story. The Reee chair has the unique honor of starting life as a computer game console.
The London -based design firm Pli Design created the Reee chair from 100% recycled Play Station 2 consoles. What sets this contemporary chair apart from other recycled furnishings is the fact that it is created from just one recycled source of plastic. Typically, recycled plastic comes from multiple sources.
The recycled plastic from the game consoles comprises both the seat and back on the Reee chair. Add a steel frame for durability and stability and a streamlined design for a contemporary aesthetic. To create an even more sustainable design, the chair can be easily disassembled and recycled.
According to Pli Design's design manager, the goal of the Reee chair was to create recycled furniture "that has style, function and durability but does not compromise its environmental credentials."
The recycled chair will be available on September 10 at various retailers.
