Recycling Electronics for Cash

Office Depot has implemented a new environmentally friendly recycling program that not only accepts old electronics, but will actually give you store credit for them.

Office Depot was one of the first companies to start a recycling program at their stores about a year ago when they started accepting old electronics for recycling. However, Office Depot recently launched their Tech Trade-In Program, which actually allows consumers to earn store credit for their recycled electronics.

If you visit their electronics recycling website, you can enter relevant information about your electronics. The site comes up with a trade-in value for the old electronics, which is paid out in the form of a store credit for that amount. Office Depot even provides you with a pre-paid shipping label to mail in your old electronics.

All kinds of electronics are eligible, from mp3 players to laptops to digital cameras. And for those electronics that aren't eligible for the Tech Trade-In Program, you can still recycle them through their Tech Recycling Program. Whichever program you choose to use, the electronics are broken down into raw materials, like copper plastic and aluminum, which are then recycled and re-used. Some electronics are even refurbished and sold as second-hand products.

Granted, this recycling program is really just a green gimmick at heart, but in the long run, it ends up benefitting everyone.
