Green Design Hits the Road in an Airstream

Sometimes green design shows up in the most unexpected places. Apparently even RVs and trailers are going green, if you can call a gas-guzzling, emissions-belching machine environmentally friendly. It sounds like a bit of an oxymoron, but read on if you don't believe me.

The greenest Airstream, aptly called the Ecostream, was unveiled recently, with all of the eco-friendly bells and whistles one would associate with good green design.

  • Floors are made of woven strand bamboo, one of the greenest flooring options around.

  • A recycled Harley Davidson fuel tank is recycled into a water tank.

  • Water is heated on the wood stove recycled from a boat.

  • Fabrics used for cushions are made from hemp and canvas.

  • Tables, chairs and bedding are all made from various forms of recycled plastic.

  • According to Trailer Life, the Ecostream even boasts solar panels and LED lights.

The Ecostream was created in response to a challenge to make a trailer that was as green as possible. According to Trailer Life, all of the green design products included in the Ecostream come from environmentally friendly, sustainable sources.
